Zero Rating for Listed Buildings, it’s not over yet

In March we reported on the Governments plans to withdraw Zero Rating of VAT on Alterations to Listed Buildings. We can now bring you an update that a collective of around 20 like minded groups are working on making a case to keep Zero Rating on Alterations.

At a meeting with representatives of the groups on 17 May, David Gauke, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, said that he had some sympathy about extending transitional relief but evidence would be needed to convince HMRC.

Under the current proposals the Zero rating for Alterations to Listed Buildings is scheduled to be withdrawn from 01 October 2012. Whilst there will be transitional arrangements in place, it is safer to try and ensure that any work that qualifies is programmed and completed before this date.

Protectahome are always happy to provide help and assistance in scheduling work and point our clients in the direction of suitably qualified professionals where additional advice is required regarding regulations.
