Protectahome has completed structural waterproofing installation at Birmingham’s former central fire station at Lancaster Circus. The former fire station is being converted to student accommodation for Aston University and will house over 450 student rooms when complete.
The building was home to Birmingham’s Fire Department HQ and dates back to 1935.
Protectahome technicians have successfully installed over 3000m2 of cavity drain membrane to the site which contains 3 distinct sections along its triangular perimeter. The building itself is a grade II listed building and extends over 130,000sq. ft. and 1.7 acres.
Protectahome has designed and installed a Type C (Drained) Waterproofing System using components from Triton Systems Platon range of products. The Type C system involved fitting cavity drain membrane, in this instance Triton Platon P8, to basement level walls and floor slabs. The membrane captures any water ingress and channels this to a Protectahome installed perimeter drainage channel. The drainage channel then delivers the water to one of ten sump chambers cut into the floor slab where it is pumped away.
The system installed complies with the requirements set out within BS8102 and a long term Protectahome Guarantee was applied.
