Structural Repairs on Monnow Bridge

Monnow Bridge is the sole remaining medieval fortified river bridge in the United Kingdom where the gate tower stands on the bridge itself. The pedestrianised bridge built in the 13th Century crosses the River Monnow some 500m above its confluence with the River Wye.

Licensees of rodent infested pub in Portsmouth fined £8,500

Following a tip off, environmental health officers from Portsmouth City Council found evidence of a mice infestation at the Dolphin pub in Portsmouth. Droppings were found in food and throughout the property.

Dry Rot discovery leads to closure of Scottish Castle

A severe Dry Rot outbreak has been discovered at Thirlestane Castle in Scotland. Set in the Scottish Borders at Lauder, the castle originates back to the 13th century. It has extensive parklands and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Flood sandbag provisions may end for Devon residents

Mid Devon Council have proposed cutting back on sandbag provisions for residents in the event of flooding. Devon was subject to severe rain and gales in winter 2012. Damage to buildings and bridges was reported and twenty homes were evacuted after water breached the 200-year-old Grand Western Canal at Halberton.
