Protectahome were appointed by a Local Authority to inspect a 40 year old semi detached dwelling in the suburbs of Cardiff. The tenants had noticed severe vertical cracking and minor horizontal cracking to the gable elevation wall.
After a careful inspection by our Structural Repairs Surveyor it was determined that the horizontal cracking was caused by Cavity Wall Tie Corrosion. The severe vertical cracking was found to be due to thermal movement in the outer skin of the gable blockwork.
Protectahome’s directly employed Operatives installed Helifix Dry Fix Cavity Wall Ties into the property. The existing Defective Wall Ties were isolated from the blockwork to prevent further damage due to their expansion. Helifix Helibars and Helifix Helibond Grout was used to repair the vertical cracks. The bars and cracks were then covered with stainless steel mesh prior to re-rendering.
