To facilitate best use of space, the designers of a new restaurant being constructed within Highgate Studios in Kentish Town, London wanted to utilise an existing concrete cellar. The flooded cellar was suffering from ground water ingress and rainwater ingress from the car park above. A robust waterproofing design was required which would require highly skilled and meticulous installation by trained professionals. Protectahome were called in for our expertise and experience in dealing with such demanding design and installation work.

Our surveyor selected a combined approach to waterproofing the structure, utilising Type A (barrier or tanked protection) and Type C (drained protection). The concrete soffit was prepared and treated using a Specialist Concrete Repair Mortar, Concrete Fillet Seal and Concrete Waterproofing Slurry modified with Tanking Mix Elastifier to provide a degree of flexibility. The walls, floors and stanchions were primed with an anti lime coating prior to the installation of the Type C waterproofing system. We utilised a combination of 8mm and 20mm Cavity Drain Membranes linked to integral drainage formed with a Perimeter Drainage Channel (PDC). This discharges directly to a newly formed Sump chamber. Our specification included for the installation of two high capacity submersible pumps, high water alarm and battery back up. We worked seamlessly with the principle contractor to ensure our work was completed on time, allowing the high quality finishing work to proceed without delay.
