The building which is utilised as a retail Pharmacy and for living accommodation was suffering from dampness and ground water ingress. In particular, the Basement level was badly affected causing impacting on the living accommodation and the storage area of the business. Protectahome were consulted and asked to prepare a schedule of remedial repairs to overcome the problems being experienced. Our client wanted to retain the current use and merely wished to rid himself of the damp environment and reduce the risks of flooding in the future. Non destructive testing carried out by our Surveyor revealed high levels of dampness on the internal and external walls.
Following a detailed inspection we identified that a System of remedial Waterproofing and Damproofing would need to be installed. Having evaluated the end use of the building, consideration was given to the different types of Waterproofing that could be applied to overcome the problems being experienced. Our surveyor selected a Type C Cavity Drain Membrane system of waterproofing, utilising materials from John Newton & Co. Newton System 508 and 508 Meshed Membranes were employed for use on the walls and floors. The application of this type of Waterproofing allows ground water to depressurise behind the membrane, preventing additional stresses building up, unlike traditional tanking methods. Once the property had installed a reliable and efficient Waterproofing System our client’s concerns were relieved. Protectahome were applauded for our professionalism, experience and punctuality which resulted in a Guaranteed damp and flood free zone.
