Wet Rot Treatment Specialists

If a client suspects they have an out break of Wet Rot or Dry Rot it is essential that a professional diagnosis is obtained.

Protectahome Surveyors are experienced professionals who are used to dealing with wood rotting fungi found in buildings.

Whilst there are many types of wood rotting fungi there are two main groups, Brown Rots and  White Rots.

  • Wet Rot Attack (Coniophora puteana)

The Wet Rot species can be found in each group (brown or white) and usually require significantly less work to control/eradicate than true Dry Rot (Serpula lacrymans).

There is only one true Dry Rot fungus which belongs to the Brown Rot group.

The two most common types of Wet Rot found in buildings are Cellar Fungus (Coniophora puteana) and Mine Fungus (Fibroporia vaillantii). Both require significantly Damp Timber to perpetuate their life cycle and both cause darkening of the Damp Timber along with cuboidal (block like) cracking.

It is essential that the type and extent of a Wet Rot attack is correctly identified which may in some circumstances require localised “opening up” work. Whilst a Wet Rot attack is usually easier to deal with than a Dry Rot outbreak, professional advice and identification are critical if unnecessary work is to be avoided.
